I started glassblowing in January of 2009. Not sure why I decided to take a class but decided it was a now or never, or even a fulfillment of a new years resolution. I consider myself on a life path that leads me to hot molten glass but as this isn't one of the least expensive hobbies I could have taken up, I still have a day job as well. Working with glass is really unlike any other medium I have ever tried. It goes beyond working in 3d and even simple artistic drive. Glass requires you to problem solve and to be quick on your feet. Its very difficult to make a piece without any clarity of what you hope it will look like. Going in shapeless is not a very good option. Form, color, function, are all major considerations of the how and whys of what I plan to make or attempt to even plan to make. Personally I like working with bits of everything. Give me a compatible COE and see what comes out. A fun activity for me has been searching throuh the scrap bin and finding things in there that I wonder what I can do with or how they were made to begin with. I hope to continue working and expanding my experience base as well as push forward in color, form, and technique. I welcome challenges and appreciate critique, for without either there is no drive to move forward. If you have a special request or questions about me or my skills please contact me. If you are interested in learning to glass blow a good resource is the Bay Area Glass Institute, where I blow glass weekly. |
